How reviews work
Reviews on I Make Stuff are there to help you choose. Here's how we keep them honest.
Who can write a review
- Only customers who bought the product and received it can review it. Every review is marked as a verified purchase.
- Sellers can't review their own products, and can't edit, hide or remove reviews of them.
- We don't import reviews from other products, websites or marketplaces.
No rewards for reviews
We never offer anything — discounts, free products, points or prize draws — in return for a review, and sellers on I Make Stuff aren't allowed to either. Asking for a review is fine; paying for one, or for a good one, isn't. If you were offered something in return for a review here, please tell us.
Every rating counts
- Reviews appear as soon as they're written. Positive and negative reviews are published on exactly the same terms.
- A product's star rating is the average of all its published reviews — nothing is filtered out to improve it.
- We never remove a review because it's critical, low-rated or unwelcome to the seller.
When a review is removed
Only for one of these reasons:
- Not a genuine review (e.g. fake, written by the seller or someone connected to them)
- Written in return for a reward that wasn't disclosed
- Offensive, abusive, threatening or unlawful
- Contains someone's personal information
- Not about the product (e.g. spam, advertising, links)
- Removed at the reviewer's own request
The reason is recorded each time. Product pages show how many reviews have been removed under this policy.
